Watching T.V.

Willow watching Vampire Diaries with me. She's Team Stefan, whereas, I'm more Team Damon.
After farm chores on the cold morning I ate breakfast watching one of my DVRed TV shows, Vampire Diaries...Willow really seemed to enjoy it. She found the whole drama intriguing. I think we might have another V.D. fan here.
I'm glad we have this bonding time. :)

Catnip...gone

That catnip that I told you I had growing...well, its been stripped of its leaves. It seems, surprise...surprise, that my three cats like it.

I planted it for them, but not for them to devour now. I wanted to be all resourceful and dry it to put in their toys.

~Sheesh~ There goes that plan!

Next time I will put it where they can't get it. I wonder where that is?

My Lil Herb Garden

I'm growing herbs and they're not dead!!! I've never had much luck growing herbs, both in pots and in the garden. The one herb that did grow well for me was lavender, and that was only after a few attempts.

I tried it in a pot at first but was never successful. It just so happened the dog had started a hole by the front path, so I plopped my current lavender plant in it. Violia! It loved it there and thrived.

Everytime I walked down that path I was surrounded by the soft scent of lavender.

Now someone else is enjoying it.

The first plant I bought this spring for my new place was lavender...but it didn't last a week. I thought I would be able to keep lavender in a pot now that I had a little bit more experience gardening. I was wrong. So I quit trying to grow lavender...for now.

My other herbs; Basil, oregano, thyme, Rosemary and catnip are doing beautifully. I love that I can walk out my kitchen door and get fresh herbs. I think my food tastes better...maybe...hopefully.

I'm still hoping I can grow lavender with the rest of my herbs. If anyone has any suggestions for growing lavender on pots please let me know.

Just Outside

This is a row of peonies getting ready to bloom right outside my back door.  Have I mentioned that I really love where I live?

Well, I do.

The Ark is Built

We have had so much rain that I have built my ark and I'm ready to go.  Thunderstorms keep knocking us around here in the bluegrass, so much so that my nerves are on the verge.  Being from Oklahoma I am used to intense thunderstorms and tornadic activity.  But these last few weeks have put all that experience to shame.

Now every siren I hear puts me on high alert.  A plane flying to close to the ground makes me think a tornado is forming. And the rain is washing away my topsoil, creating bogs in the lawn and making every pair of pants I own take on a new mud splattered look.

Probably needless to say, I haven't really done any gardening.  I have plants and vegetables that I want in the ground but if I did people in Tennessee would be the ones able to grow them after having floated away. My windowsills are full, and I am afraid that either a dog's tail or a cat will knock the plants over.  I am living on borrowed time.

My gardening in on hold, for now.  If this rain doesn't let up I WILL figure out a way to grow my plants hydroponically with this standing rain water.

It's Not Me

Moving into a new house has its pluses and minuses. The main plus is major purging. The big, and I mean big minus, of moving is starting over on my garden.

My old garden wouldn't have been in any magazines or won any awards but it was mine. I loved it. I selected each plant. Some were clearance cast offs, others were impluse purchases.

I don't know what is already planted in the beds. So I have to wait and see what comes up. Luckily I am living in the artist cottage on an historic estate that employs a full time gardener. Wonderful things are coming up this spring. Lilac bushes, Wisteria, Lillies of the Valley and flowering trees. It is beautiful and smells like heaven.

All these gorgeous plants are coming up and I had nothing to do with it. The Gardner in me can't believe I am saying this, but I kind of like having this beauty surround me and I didn't have to do a thing.

Greenhouse at Work

The itch to start plants came as strong as ever this year, the only difference is I have moved and don't have the same sunlight availability.  But the itch grew and grew until I couldn't contain it any longer. So, by golly, a brought my seedlings and dirt to work.  I placed the planted seeds under my desk fluorescent light and prayed for something to happen.  Truthfully, I expected mushrooms to sprout but instead the plants poked their little green heads out.  I have tomatoes, peppers, basil, catnip and columbine growing on my desk at work.

The nice things about starting my plants at work is that my cats don't knock them down. :)

Dogwoods

The dogwoods at my new house are blooming. I was starting to wonder if I would be perpetually surrounded by dreary brown since I am now surrounded by trees.
